Our Sourcing Principles
Our sourcing approach is guided by a small number of clear principles that help us assess materials and suppliers consistently.
We prioritise materials that:
- Are responsibly managed or recovered
- Have a clear and traceable origin
- Perform as intended over their expected lifespan
- Can be reused, recycled or returned to land responsibly at end of life
Where possible, we work with materials that sit naturally within circular systems, reducing unnecessary extraction and waste. Where limitations exist, we believe it is important to acknowledge them openly rather than overstate benefits.
Responsible sourcing is fundamental to how we work.
Ethical Labour & Working Practices
People matter.
We expect the same level of care for people within our supply chain as we do within our own business. That includes respect for safe working conditions, fair treatment and compliance with relevant labour standards.
We recognise that supply chains can be complex, particularly where materials are sourced internationally. Rather than relying on assumptions, we look for evidence, accountability and a willingness to engage openly on ethical standards. Where concerns arise, we expect them to be addressed.
Transparency & Accountability
We believe transparency builds trust.
While we do not publicly name individual suppliers, we are clear about the standards we expect and the frameworks we use to assess them. This approach protects commercial relationships while ensuring accountability remains central to our sourcing decisions.
Where appropriate, we reference recognised third-party standards and certifications to help demonstrate responsible practices within our supply chain. These provide additional assurance, but they do not replace our own judgement or responsibility.
Supplier Certifications & Standards
Depending on the material and supply chain, responsible sourcing may be supported by independent certification schemes and industry standards, including:
- FSC® and PEFC™ certification for responsibly managed timber
- PAS 100 for composted materials
- Ethical Stone Register for stone sourcing
- ISO 14001 environmental management systems
Certification alone is not a guarantee of responsible sourcing, but it can play a valuable role when used alongside careful assessment and ongoing review.
Procurement & Ongoing Review
Responsible sourcing is not a one-time decision.
Our procurement process is designed to evolve as standards improve, evidence develops and expectations change. We review sourcing decisions regularly, remain open to better alternatives, and adjust our approach where it leads to improved outcomes.
This framework sets a reference point for how sourcing decisions are made today — and how they will continue to be reviewed in the future.
